The Best Kept Secret

Have you heard the best kept secret?

Maybe you have.  Maybe you haven’t.

From time to time, I like to reach out to people in the literal marketplace, so to speak.  I desire to be of encouragement to the business community.

So, take a few moments to learn about one of the best kept secrets in America.

This Life is Not All There Is

As one of my favorite pastors, C.W. Perry, used to say, “This life is not all there is.”  C.W. Perry would go on to say, “The best is yet to come.”

But, the truth is — there was (and is) a bit of a twist.  And, he knew it.

How Are Things Going For You?

Chances are, if you’re alive and reading this, then I bet I can answer this for you in any number of ways.

  • “It’s going great — couldn’t be better.”
  • “I don’t know if I’m going to make it through another day.”
  • And, of course, there’s everything in between: “Things are going okay.  But, this could be better.  Or, that could be better.”

The truth is, for most of us, life is a daily struggle.  Our mundane and routine existence — punctuated by an occasional high point and maybe, God help us, even a heartbreaking tragedy or two (or more).

But, whatever your lot, I have some good news for you.

C.W. Perry would often call this good news “the best kept secret in America.”

What’s the Best Kept Secret?

The best kept secret is this: How can someone know whether or not they are going to heaven?

Of course, that begs the question: Do you believe in heaven?  Or [the opposite] hell?

At over a half century of life experience, I’ve heard all kinds of answers:

  • There’s nothing after this life.
  • We all go to heaven (because a loving God wouldn’t send someone to hell).
  • There’s heaven (for the good) and then “nothingness” (for the bad).  The idea of “nothingness” was probably created by someone because the idea of hell seemed, well, too hell-ish.
  • And, there are plenty of other ideas or concoctions (e.g., like being reincarnated and coming back as a squirrel or a sow bug).

The Real Truth

The real truth is this: There is a heaven.  And there is a hell.

God did not create hell for you and me — but rather for the devil and his demons.  But, it’s the default landing pad for those that don’t learn and take advantage of the best kept secret.

For those people who — by God’s grace — choose heaven, it is written:

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.'” — Matthew 25:34

For those people who — by default — choose hell, it is written:

Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.'” — Matthew 25:41

Jesus Christ (the King) is returning.  And, as sure as you are reading this, you will be on either God’s right — or his left.  Where do you want to be?

The Best Kept Secret

So, here’s the truth and proverbial bottom line.  It’s as simple as 1-2-3.

  1. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” — Romans 3:23
  2. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” — Romans 6:23
  3. “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” — Romans 10:9-10

There it is in all of its sublime simplicity.

  • Declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord.”
  • And, believe in your heart God raised him (Jesus) from the dead.

And that, my friends, is the best kept secret in America.

The Promise

Additionally, that last passage goes on to say this.

“As Scripture says, ‘Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.’ 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'” — Romans 10:11-13

What Do You Say?

Now, you know the secret. So what are you going to do with it?

Choose wisely!  And, if you haven’t taken that important step, I would encourage you to do it now!

And, please share or forward this article to someone God places on your heart.
