Finding Business Gold
Are you interested in finding business gold? Many of you have been following an article series that started with My Quest.
If you’re just now joining us, as you now know, many decades ago, I set out to find the secret to business success. Much like the alchemists of long ago, I was searching for that super secret method. I was looking for that secret formula to turn any business into gold. I was looking for Business Alchemy.
And, I debunked that myth. I didn’t find the silver bullet. I didn’t find the magical elixir. But, thank God, I did find a formula.
And, you may recall, in a previous article called The Big Secret, we debunked the idea of “making” gold. But, we told you that, God willing, finding gold was and is possible.
A General Formula
We see it in all walks of life:
- How does a young gymnast become an Olympic Gold medalist?
- How does the kid that draws well become a world-famous artist?
- And, how does a smart, nerdy kid become one of the richest people on the planet?
At face value, you can kind of see a pattern there. Generally, wouldn’t you agree? Maybe, you can agree that God-given talent is one of the many criteria. And, if you have followed athletics, you can see that the road is also paved with a lot of hard work.
So, how about this as a general formula:
- talent
- hard work.
But, is that all?
Another Secret
I’ll tell you another secret. For every 100 athletic kids, how many will become world-class athletes? And, for every 100 kids that can draw a horse well, how many will become world-famous artists?
The simple truth is this: only God knows.
I have seen something else under the sun:
“The race is not to the swift
or the battle to the strong,
nor does food come to the wise
or wealth to the brilliant
or favor to the learned;
but time and chance happen to them all.” – Ecclesiastes 9:11
And, there you have it. ” … time and chance happen to them all.” I have seen people who didn’t seem that smart (e.g., or talented) enjoy great success. And, I have known people who are smart or talented – and work hard – yet still struggle in business.
The truth is, only God knows whether you will succeed or not.
And, here’s the controversial kicker: You could do everything right, and things might not take off for you. Plus, you might make mistake after mistake and still enjoy great success.

You may recall, this article series was about trying to find the formula for turning a business into gold.
For centuries, mankind has been looking for – and finding – gold. And, it is here, where we can draw a parallel:
- Is it possible to find gold? Yes.
- Does everyone who looks for gold find tons of it? No.
- Can people learn to prospect and improve their chances of finding gold? Yes.
Finding Business Gold
Do you like the idea of finding a lot of gold? I do. And, I bet you do, too.
But here’s the thing: You are not guaranteed to find it. That’s why we laid out the big qualifier at the beginning. Because you can do everything right, and still come up short.
But, God willing, there are more secrets to tell. And, if you would like to improve you chances of finding business gold, we’d invite you to come along, so to speak.
